Former MEC Chair, Jane Ansah, distances herself from opposition DPP: “I am standing as Independent.”
Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) Chairperson, Jane Ansah has joined the 2025 parliamentary race but has distanced herself from any possibility of standing on the ticket of the opposition Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Ansah has openly declared her interest in contesting for the newly demarcated Ntcheu North West Constituency in the 2025 polls.
A video clip which has gone viral on social distance platforms show her campaigning for the parliamentary seat.
Her campaign director, Mphatso Mjojo, has confirmed that Ansah wants to go to parliament on independent ticket.
Mjojo, who is also the brother of the former MEC chairperson, has, however, refuted social media reports linking her to represent the opposition DPP in next year’s elections.
In 2019, Ansah faced national protests calling for her registration due to presidential election irregularities, an election that the constitutional court nullified in February 2020.
She was further accused of siding with the DPP which was the ruling party by then—an allegation she vehemently refuted.
