Lunguzi accuses Dedza district council of sidelining her

Member of Parliament (MP) for Dedza East Constituency, Juliana Lunguzi has accused the Health and Environmental Committee for Dedza district council of removing her from membership.

Lunguzi: The Council should explain

Lunguzi said for quite some time she has not been getting informed of any service committee meetings which made her conclude that she was removed from the committee.

Speaking during a full council meeting, Lunguzi said it was sad for a trained health specialist like herself to be removed from a health service committee without any reason.

“I belong to the health committee and for sometime I have not been receiving any letter informing me of the committee meetings,” Lunguzi said.

“I demand to know why I was removed or they have to tell me why they do not inform me whenever there is an issue which needs discussion,” she added.

She therefore asked the council members to explain to her whether the removal was based on the fact that she is female MP and that committees are only meant for male Members of Parliament.

“I am surprised that I was removed from the only service committee that I belonged to when my fellow male MPs belong to two service committees each,” she said.

However, Councilor for Katewe Ward, Auzious Chidobvu denied the accusations that the committee had withdrawn her membership.

Councilor Chidobvu said they never informed her about meetings anymore because she always gives excuses.

Thieves can’t be comfortable with the cat amongst both councillors are conspicuous in an arena of shady deals. Furthermore at no point will these illiterates accommodate an intellectual whose presence doesn’t offer them any space to play domineering pranks onto health workers at the district. Councillors are tiny gods in the absence of MPs

Forget about Committee Meetings……your work on the ground should put you in good stead. These meetings are a waste of time any way other than it is a machinery for members to collect undeserved allowances. Honourable Lunguzi, you are doing a good job for your constituency……just focus on delivering more to the poor.

What the Ward Councillor has said is very true. Most MPs do not take service committee meetings seriously and usually delegate someone to represent them at such meetings. This lady sometimes feels she is the only health personnel there is and very important than everyone else. Now that she knows people can conduct business without crying for her presences she feels the heat. She is an MP but not indispensable
