Malawi to participate at Zone VI golf tournament
Malawi will participate at this year’s golf tournament to be held in Swaziland next weekend.
Golf Union of Malawi has released an eight-member team which will leave on Monday.
The team dominated by former development golfers comprises top ranked Paul Chidale handicap (0), Adam Sailesi handicap (1), George Chisambo handicap (4), Kondwani Mphulla handicap (4), Dan Phiri handicap (5), Simon Moses handicap (6) Bob Dambo handicap (7) and Witman Brown handicap (9).
The players were selected basing on a series of tournaments organised to assess the players.
A series of the tournaments were capped by Golf Union matchplay held at Blantyre Sports Club over the weekend won by Sailesi with Chidale coming second.
Coach Chris said all the players performed well during the last assessment tournament to merit a place in the national team.
But the coach said the youthful squad was part of building a future for the future.
Malawi has never won the competition and last year finished eighth out of nine countries in South Africa.
Their best ever performance was seven years ago when they finished on third position.
In 2014 Malawi finished on fourth position when the competition was hosted by Namibia.
