Fattani wins Mpingwe Cricket tourney
Fattani Printers cricket team are the champions of the 2016 Mpingwe cricket tournament sponsored by First Merchant Bank (FMB). Fattani Printers beat Anchor Industries by 23 runs to defend the title they won last year.
Speaking to Nyasa Times soon after the finals played at Mpingwe sports club, Captain for for Fattani Printers cricket team Saeed Limdawala said it was pleasing to defend the title.
“We are very thankful to our executive for all the support rendered to us during the course of the tournament. We have a very balanced team and this made it easy for us to play with a lot of confidence. We hope to win it again next year,” said Limdawala.
For his part, captain for Anchor industries cricket team Karamat Chaudhar said they are happy to have achieved the feat.
“We are happy with how we have played in this year’s competition. Today we faced a very organised team in Fattani but it’s my hope to break their records next year,” said the Anchor Industries Captain.
Speaking after the prize presentation, Marketing Manager for FMB Widdy Nsona assured management of mpingwe sports club that the competition will bounce back next year in a bigger am better way.
He said it is FMB’S wish to see a lot of indeginous teams taking part in the competition.
“We are happy with this year’s turn up. And as sponsors, we are pleased with as sponsors, we are happy that this year’s competition attracted more participation as 16 teams registered with 2 being indigenous teams. We want more participation in this sport.
“Next year we want to see more indigenous teams taking part. Cricket is a game for all people and as a leading bank, we would love to be part and parcel of its development in Malawi,” said Nsona.
Sports Director for Mpingwe sports club Wahab Jagot commended FMB for the continued support rendered to them.
“We are very pleased to be associated with FMB. This not the first time for them to support us,” said Jagot.
Fattani Printers Scored 131 in 20 overs to claim the big prize while and Anchor Industries scored 108 in 20 overs during the final game.
FMB has been sponsoring the competition since 2014.
