PAC indaba called off, prolonged President Mutharika’s absence affects meet
Quasi religious organisation, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) has put on hold an all inclusive indaba this end of the month, citing the volatile political situation as the reason.
PAC executive director Robert Phiri confirmed the development, saying the political situation is volatile heightened by the prolonged absence of President Peter Mutharika.
State House has announced on Tuesday Mutharika would be returning from the US on Sunday, a month after he went to the country to attend the UN general assembly.
Phiri said PAC executive committee met on Thursday and felt the political climate is not conducive for the meeting.
“They scanned the political environment, they decided to put the meeting on hold until such a time when the political and economic situation would be conducive,” he said.
He said other issues to be discussed include the escalating corruption cases and land issues.

This quasi group is more political than religious. You have been used by the opposition for the past two years thinking you can weaken this govt. Just recently the group planned this indaba to conduct this meeting so that at the end it should announce on behalf of the opposition that the govt have failed so we need a transitional govt. Unfortunately a good number of its members refused and openly told Chingota that they can not fall prey to this. Chingota was made to prolong his stay after the expiry of his term just to make sure he accompolish… Read more »
