Kukoma Diamonds retain Presidential Netball Trophy
Kukoma Diamonds further established themselves as the dominant force in local netb all as theyreclaimed the Presidential Netball Trophy after beating Thunder Queens 47-41 at Kumudzi Centre in Lilongwe on Saturday.


Diamonda led 14-12 in the first-quarter before increasing the tally to 26-22 and 38-32 afterwards.
“It’s wonderful that we have reclained the trophy. The secret was to go out there and fight. We fought until the end,” said Diamonds coach Griffin ‘Zagalo’ Saenda.
Saenda hailed “sound sponsorship” from Capital Oil Refining Industry (Cori) to have been the main force behind the Diamonds, saying “ no team in the country can beat us in the domestic netball arena”
Indeed, Diamonds have claimed all major national netball trophies including the Airtel Money National Championship and the GOtv Netball Champions League.
For retaining the Presidential Trophy, Diamonds received K4 million and a trophy while Thunder Queens got the K2 million second prize.
“It’s sad for the players but that’s sport. The players gave everything, they were brave and did their best. Congratulations to the Kukoma Diamonds,” said Thunder Queens coach-cum-general secretary Christina Mkwanda-Nsinji.
Thunder Queens were previously known as MTL Queens.
