Rev Ndau ‘cool’ with his axe as minister: ‘Serving in cabinet is temporary job’
Fired Minister of Information and communication Technology, Reverend Malison Ndau says he has no regress in his remarks that he expects President Peter Mutharika assents to the Access to Information (ATI) Bill passed by Parliament and gets gazetted into, comment that has been widely thought to be behind his shock axing.
The passing of the Bill came after several disagreements between the opposition and government sides as the opposition lawmakers pressed on to pass the legislation that had been butchered and was presented in Parliament in July 2016.
Ndau says his comments after passing of the Bill were sincerely and that he expects Mutharika to approve the Information law expected to empower Malawians to hold government and duty-bearers accountable on governance issues,
The former minister believes he’s got a clean record as he is relieved of his cabinet duties .
“I am not disappointed as the only casualty who faced the chop. Being a cabinet minister is a temporary. But as an MP I have a contract with my constituents to serve for five years,” said Ndau.
Ndau said he learnt about his sacking in the media as he was not told by the appointing authority that he is axed.
His dismissal was announced by presidential spokesman Mgeme Kalilani. He has since been replaced by former National Intelligence Services chief, Nicholas Dausi, who will be doubling as government spokesperson..
In recent times, Mutharika has repeatedly said he would fire any minister who is corrupt or underperforms.
State House declined to comment if the firing of Ndau meant the President was walking his talk,
However, Ndau said this was not the end of the road for his responsibility to serve the nation.
“I will continue to do so. I should that God that I served in that post and also thank President Mutharika that out of all MPs in parliament he picked me as Minister of Information in his lean cabinet,” said the soft spoken Ndau.
Mutharika’s first Cabinet reshuffle was done 11 months after becoming President in which he swapped three Cabinet ministers.
The second was in August last year when he fired Paul Chibingu and Trasizio Gowelo as ministers of Lands, Housing and Urban Development and Local Government and Rural Development respectively.
Mutharika’s third reshuffle since taking over power after his triumph in the May 20 2014 Tripartite Elections was done in April 2016 in which he sacked one senior minister, Thyolo South-West member of Parliament (MP) Allan Chiyembekeza, who served as Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, moving around several others and drafted in one new face as deputy minister, but maintained a lean team of 20.
Meanwhile, President Mutharika has promoted Lloyd Muhara from deputy to full chief secretary to the government, while his predecessor, George Mkondiwa has been redeployed to India as high commissioner.
Dr. Issac Munlo has been recalled from India and will be Chief Director in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Corporation, according to State House statement.

I have always wondered whether it is proper for Men Of God (Reverends, Priests, Pastors, prophets, Apostles, Bishops etc) to participate in politics, or even as board members, where there is alot of lying. Statements by Rev. Ndau, for example , contain alot of untruths. Having told lies on politcal podiums or during interviews, I wonder how these Men of God feel at the end of the day or when preaching to the flock.
