Malawi junior police officers accuse seniors of favouritism in UN peace keeping missions
Junior police officers are accusing their seniors of favouring their relatives and friends in United Nations peace keeping mission assignments.
This came last week as the police were interviewing officers for peace keeping assignments.
The junior officers, who asked not to be named for fear of reprisals, said the whole peace keeping interviews was a sham as officers were already hand-picked before the interviews.
However, police spokesperson James Kadadzera refuted the allegations.
“All procedures are duly followed when picking officers for the peace mission assignments. No one is hand picked,” said Kadadzera.
He said among others, officers should work for the police service for five years, they should have a valid driving licence.
He said it was unfair to level accusations of favouritism to senior police officcers and those on the panel of interviews.
Malawi sends police officers for peace keeping missions in Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan among other war torn countries.
