MCP mend fences as Chakwera reach out to Msowoya and Kaliwo: ‘Prepare for power’

Malawi Congress Party (MCP) leader Lazarus Chakwera on Saturday reached out to his pafrty deputy and Richard Msowoya  andy Secretary General Gustav Kaliwo and agreed to bury any political differences and work together, saying  the prty is now ‘on the threshold of power’.

Chakwera and Msowoya (L): Unity of purpose

Addressing a new conference at party headquarters in Lilongwe, while flanked by Msowoya,  MacDonald vice president  (South) Lombola, Kaliwo, Treasure General Tony Kandiero, and  Deputy Secretary General Chatonda James Kaunda, the MCP president said the meeting held on 1 December, 2017, accepted that there were divisions within the party but agreed that the unity of the party is of paramount importance.

“Therefore as a party we must advance on the basis of that unity,” said Chakwera.

Chakwera said the meeting resolved that going forward “ National Executive Committee members office bearers and party members must abide by the Malawi Congress Party Constitution. “

MCP president, who is also leader of opposition,  said there shall be management meeting soon which will deal with other finer details of the party.

Chakwera said the management meeting will be followed by the NEC meeting.

Recently, Msowoya who is also Speaker of Parliament recently ruled ‘out of order’  (MCP) Chakwera—who is also leader of opposition in Parliament— speech in the House in which he branded President Peter Mutharika as “a Prince of Thieves” presiding over the most corrupt administration, saying words that reflected on the Head of State be struck off the Hansard – a book of record for the House.

While Kaliwo has been spearheading calls for the convention.

It is currently not known if party’s publicist Jessie Kabwira will be reinstated at her position as party’s mouth piece.

Chakwera has been blaming  the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP)-led government for the socio-economic woes facing the country.

He accuses  present leadership lacks a vision to move Malawians out of problems such as electricity crisis,  worsening corruption at top level of government, drug shortages,  ailing economy and dwindling education standards.

The reconciliation equation will never be complete without Njobvuyalema, Kabwira, Jumbe, Chatinkha and all the district chairpersons that were removed from their positions.
If the constitution is to be followed, Mkaka must shut up and be removed as his position is unconstitutional hence Kabwira must be unconditionally reinstated.
Chinocho, I think you have gone overboard. What you have said is unwarranted. Please apologize to the individuals concerned.

My advice to Nsowoya and Kaliwo is don’t forget to mark the burial site of the hatchet, just in case.
