67 illegal workers from India arrested in Malawi sugar factory raid
The Immigration Department officials arrested a group of 67 illegal workers – all Indian national – at the Salima Sugar Factory for working without work permits. during a raid on Wednesday barely a day after Minister of Homeland Security Richard Chimwendo Banda paid a surprise visit to the factory .
The immigration officers surrounded the Salima Sugar Factory following Minister Chimwendo Banda’s discovery that Indian nationals were working without work permits as required by law.
They guarded all exits at the premises in to make sure no one escaped during the raid.
After questioning the occupants and checking identity documents, officers arrested 60 men on suspicion of working illegally.
Spokesperson for Immigration Department in Central Region, Elack Banda, said those arrested are male Indians who came into the country mid June and have been working without employment permits.
He said this is against section 21(1) of the Immigration Act , which require foreign nationals working in Malawi to have an employment permit.
Salima Sugar Factory is a public limited company with 60 percent of its shares held by the Aum Sugar Company Limited of India and 40 percent of its shares are held by the government of Malawi under Greenbelt Authority.

I support the motion. The worst thing you see is that these pipo(foreigners) are taking advantage of there superior powers such facts that these companies are runned by there country men and then they abusing our brothers and sisters of Nyasa the custodians of this land for abnormal works in exchange of what they call theselves salary/wages but i call it machenji(just a change/a piece) as if someone asked for his/her advance payment while wonder on the same work they are receiving alot of our kwachas…Yes we understand differences are allowed but there must be a proper procedure like based… Read more »

Question what was Mutharika doing allowing the employment of 60 undocumented Indians at a sugar factory which government owns 40 percent . Something fishy!!!
As Mutharika knew he is an accessory to the crime committed. Mutharika should be charged with criminal neglect. This is serious. There is rot and crime everywhere we turn committed by Mutharika and his DPP.
Iwe chitsilu eti. Muntharika amadinda ma passport?mufutsane ku immigration kunangozadza mbava
The buck stops with the President. And Mutharika was President at the time. Arrest Mutharika and Thodi.

You all deserve our gratitude.
Deport them all, including those with shops that abuse Malawians. Nthawi ya masanje is over.
Fruits of the corrupt DPP regime…..
all these people have application files at immigration but as usual the guys are working on them because they have to make deals with people from the ministry and the bank where they issue fake receipts and pocket the money and then the ministry officials issue permits and thereafter share the money. Medi is much into the permit deals and Msisha is his errand boy. Investigate about this permit deal and also find out from Chidothe on this because he was once arrested.
65 jobs already created for Malawians. Ndiye wina aziti where will 1 million jobs come from? Nowonder DPP is no longer ruling this country. They were busy stealing our taxes instead of looking after the welfare of Malawians. Immigration department needs a huge cleanup starting from airports, borders and their offices in Lilongwe and Blantyre.
Bravo Hon Minister. Now raid Kalaria’s businesses as during Bakili duke they brought in 50 relatives from their village in India. Once again bravo and my hat off in respect.
