Malawians react to Lawyer Alexius Kamangila: Mulimbiseni mtima
Lawyer and social commentator Alexius Kamangila continues to spark heated reactions among Malawians, with recent comments on Nyasa Times showcasing a variety of views regarding his bold stance on corruption in the judiciary. Kamangila, known for his outspoken criticism of corrupt practices, has faced both support and skepticism from the public.
As the legal landscape in Malawi grapples with increasing scrutiny, Kamangila’s criticisms of judges involved in shady dealings have drawn attention.
Many Malawians are hailing him as a hero, with one commenter stating, “Heroes are always few. Heroes defy the ordinary and the status quo.”
Kamangila’s fearless pursuit of justice, especially his stance on exposing corrupt judges, has earned him admiration as a revolutionary figure with a clear conscience.
However, not all reactions are supportive. Some questioned his motivations and expressed doubts about his efforts. One critical comment noted, “Palibeso zomulimbitsa mtima, iyeyo amaziyambiranji,” implying that Kamangila’s crusade against judicial corruption may be a solitary battle with limited impact.
Yet, others encouraged him to persist, urging him not to fear or tire. “Asaope, asafooke, asatope. Aulule majaji onse amene amachita zachinyengo kuti dziko liwadziwe ndipo achite manyazi,” one commenter wrote, pushing Kamangila to expose the corrupt practices that have long plagued Malawi’s judicial system.
Critics blame the current government under the Tonse Alliance for enabling this culture of corruption. One individual remarked, “Zonsezi ndi boma la Tonse Alliance lomwe lidayambitsa khalidwe loipali,” pointing out that the administration has fostered an environment where corruption thrives, particularly within the judiciary.
Despite the divided opinions, many commenters acknowledged Kamangila’s resolve. One supportive voice asserted, “Akudziwa chomwe ali. He is not alone.” Another commented on the depth of the situation, comparing it to a heavy burden, stating, “Katundu muzito uyu,” indicating the weight of Kamangila’s fight against a deeply entrenched corrupt system.
Some, however, questioned whether social media support alone could truly help Kamangila’s cause. “Vuto ndilakut anthu timulimbisa mtima pa social media pokha aaaaa,,,ndife amantha,” one commenter lamented, reflecting the challenge of translating online support into real-world action.
The responses have painted Kamangila as a man with ideas and courage, but also as a figure fighting against powerful forces. As one commenter concluded, “A man with ideas cannot die. This man has a point, unfortunately, corruption fights back.” Kamangila’s crusade, in the eyes of many, is seen as a necessary battle, though one fraught with peril.
Whether viewed as a lone warrior or a revolutionary, Kamangila has sparked conversations across Malawi, challenging the status quo and calling for accountability in a system long seen as untouchable.
