Chakwera to pay homage at Bingu in south tour
Opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president, Dr Lazarus Chakwera, is on a 10-day tour visiting the southern region where he is conducting whistle-stop rallies.
The party’s publicity secretary Dr Jessie Kabwila said the MCP leader, who is the party’s presidential candidate in the May 20 elections, is on the tour to interact with people in the south.
She told Nyasa Times on Wednesday that the tour will give a chance to Chakwera to explain to the people of Malawi his plans of liberating the country’s economy.
Speaking further, Kabwila also accused the former regimes, United Democratic Front (UDF) and Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), for trying to kill developments which Dr Hastings Kamuzu Banda left in 1994.
“When MCP forms the next government, our leader shall continue with development plans left by former Presidents like the late Professor Bingu wa Mutharika,” said Kabwila.
While in the south, the MCP leader is expected to pay homage to former president late Bingu wa Mutharika′s Mpumulo wa Bata mausoleum in Thyolo.
Chakwera has described the late Muntharika as leader who had a great vision for the country just as Kamuzu Banda, the country’s founding President.
