Chikhwawa to use Kalulu Stadium as home ground
Chikhwawa United will turn to Kalulu Stadium in Nchalo for home games in the TNM Super League after they earned promotion to Malawi’s top flight league.
Chairman of Chikhwawa United, Owen Chomanika said the team could attract more patronage at Kalulu Stadium, which has been hosting top league action, than Nsanje Community Centre Ground.
The move has changed their earlier plans to use Nsanje Community Centre Ground which would not have been convenient to most teams especially from Northern Region who would have been forced to be travelling over 700km to play games.
“We have decided to use Kalulu Stadium as our home ground because the teams can have maximum support than Nsanje,” Chomanika said.
“We also considered that it would have been difficult for other teams to travel to Nsanje.”
Super League of Malawi (Sulom) General Secretary Williams Banda said they would have followed the procedures before granting Chikhwawa their wish to use Nsanje Community.
“For any team to use a ground as we look at a number of issues,” Banda said.
“Sulom would have inspected Nsanje Community Centre Ground and come up with their recommendations whether it was fit to be their home ground.”
Chikhwawa earned promotion to Super after a 6-2 thrashing of Zomba United on Saturday to shatter their rivals Cobbe Barracks’ hopes.
Cobbe had a mathematical chance of earning promotion if they had beaten Green Hawks by a 7-0 margin while expecting Chikhwawa to lose.
Chikhwawa is coached by Richard Fosiko who has promised to make Kaluau Stadium their fortress.
