Journalists Golden, Temwa dump Times for Nation newspaper

Two journalists Golden Matonga and Temwani Mgunda have left Blantyre Newspapers Limited (BNL) also called Times Group, which used to be Malawi’s leading publishing company after securing a job at a rival Nations Publications Limited (NPL)

Matonga (formerly current affairs at BNL) and Mgunda (formerly arts and entertainment at BNL) reported for their duties at Misa Malawi Awards Best Print Media House of the Year – NPL respectively for “greener pasturers”.

Mgunda is now senior current news affairs senior sub-editor at NPL while Matonga is now working directly under the former.

At Times Group,   Mgunda – a prolific short story writer and literary critic – has since been replaced by another of Malawi’s upcoming writers Dave Namusanya, a graduate in Media for Development from University of Malawi’s Chancellor College.

At NPL, Mgunda has replaced Emmanuel Muwamba – who left NPL for greener pastures – for his current position.

“Apart from mediocre salaries, there is a bad working relationship between some members of the staff and the management,” Daily Times insiders said.

A few months ago Times lost seasoned newsmen Jack Mcbrams, Felix Mponda, Arnold Chachacha Munthali and Idriss Ali Nassah over the same management problem.

Recently, Suzgo Khunga and Simeon Maganga now with NPL and Malawi Nation Examination Board (Maneb) respectively are also said to have left BNL over the same problem.

NPL also recently recruited former  Times Group  reporters Rex Chikoko and Watipaso Mzungu Jr. to beef up their  team.

Isaac Masingati, a graduate  in journalism from Polytechnic, University of Malawi, recently resigned from newspaper giant   BNL Times Group where he was working as Supplements Editor after being offered the job by the Nigerian Prophet TB Joshua of  the Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN).

Meanwhile, Nation newspaper  has also taken on board Nyasa Times  head  of news in Blantyre, Lucky  Mkandawire.
