Mtumodzi says Malawi Voice report has ‘no iota of truth’: Denies obtaining injunction
Director of Information and Civic Education Chikumbutso Mtumodzi on Friday rubbished a report posted on Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) mouthpiece, Malawi Voice online nee outlet that he had obtained a court injunction to stop announcement of election results.
The report claimed Mtumodzi has travelled to Blantyre to obtain a court injunction.
But the Director of Information said he has not left Lilongwe to Blantyre on Friday and also rebutted claims of obtaining a court injunction, saying the report had “no iota of truth in it.”
He said: “I am in the office at Gemin House right now. From here I will be going to Lilongwe produce market to get feed for my ducks and rabbits.
“In short Malawi Voice is being voiceless for reporting that I am enroute to Blantyre to seek a court injunction. By the way stop comparing me with others. I am a very principled and strong person who does not get involved in little things.
“As a matter of fact I do not like cruising that is why I do not follow formula one or Dhaka rally. I fear road accidents.”
Mtumodzi also trashed a post on Facebook by Innocent Mawaya – a fictitious name used by DPP operatives – which claimed he had delivered K78 million to the MEC commissioners not to release the results, saying it was “utterly rubbish” allegations from desperate individuals.
A legal battle over the release of Malawi’s chaotic electoral results is continuing at the High Court.
