Red Lions looked a composed side and itching for goals straight from the word go.

The soldiers played crispy passes style of football while Blantyre United had little to show in a game played under a very hot  weather conditions.

Lottie Chawinga and Kumbukani Mwambene nearly put the Lions ahead on several occasions but lack of composure saw the two blowing off the scoring opportunities.

However, the soldiers had a sigh of relief midway into the first half when former Blue Eagles Striker Innocent Bokosi finally broke the deadlock.

Blantyre United through Abraham Kamwendo, Muhamad Sulumba and Innocent Jere tried to come back into the game particularly in the second half but to no avail.

The win moves Red Lions to fourth position with 38 points from 24 games.

After the match, Red Lions Coach Collins Nkuna was delighted with the win but went on to blame his strikers for misfiring and lack of composure.

“This is our second game in second round to win and I am very happy. I am still working on the players more especially upfront because it seems we are lacking composure that is why we have been wasteful” said Nkuna.

Blantyre United coach Leo Mpulula refused to grant post-match interview.

Red Lions have another mountain to climb this Sunday as they host Mighty Wanderers at the Balaka Stadium.

Nkuna however remain upbeat that he expect a positive result.

“I know Wanderers are struggling hence they will be looking for a win also but I am looking forward to a positive result.” Nkuna said.
