Super League of Malawi polls set for March 14

Super League of Malawi (Sulom) has set March 14 as the day for the country’s national football flagship league governing body will go to polls.

A notice to all clubs from Sulom states that the new AGM would be held at a venue to be communicated in due course.

The national flagship league runners have since opened nominations from the clubs for the various positions which are up for grabs.

Incumbent Sulom President Innocent Bottoman, General Secretary Williams Banda have confirmed to seek re-election.

Bottoman said he had managed to turn around the fortunes of the league hence seeking another term of office.

He cited the improve working relationship with its affiliates and the country’s soccer governing body Football Association Malawi (FAM) as one of the positive changes his administration had made.

The Sulom outgoing boss  also said the renewal of the TNM Sponsorship which was under threat after ugly scenes of violence and hooliganism during the 2013 season which culminated in the death of Be Forward Wanderers fan in the team’s game against Silver Strikers.

“I have consulted affiliates, teams, respectable sports officials and my family who have encouraged me to contest again in the elections in March,” Bottoman said.

“Before I was voted in power there was a lot of gate collection syndicate which our committee has managed to put under control,” Treasurer Tiya Somba Banda said.

Other people interested in Sulom positions have kept their cards close to their chest.

Former Silver Strikers Vice-Chairman and Southern Region Football Association Treasurer Daud Ntanthiko has come out in the open to challenge Bottoman.
