Mary Waya, 3 Malawi netball players clinch deal in Tanzania
Thunder Queens coach Mary Waya and three players Joana Kachilika, Martha Dambo and Sheiraz Kaiche left Malawi last week to join a Tanzanian club Uhamiaji Sports Club on loan.
Waya confirmed of the deal before departure but declined to shed more light saying it is a private issue.
“What I can say is that I am going to Tanzania with three MTL players. There’s no need for the public to know that about,” Waya said.
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) President Rosy Chinunda confirmed saying Waya and the three players were hired on a short loan.
“I can confirm that the coach and the three players were cleared to join the Tanzanian team on a short term,” Chinunda said.
“I am not aware of the specific agreements as regards terms but suffice to say that the two teams [Thunder Queens and Uhamiaji Sports Club] have a mutual working relationship. As for the terms and conditions the Thunders coach herself can shed more light.”
Chinunda however said the coach and the players move would affect the national and their clubs as there are no major activities soon.
“It’s just a short term loan deal. We expect that they will back soon even before the Airtel National netball tournament reaches the national stage. We feel it is a good move as the players stand to gain in terms of international exposure.”
Kachilika and Dambo are also national team players.
Thunders Queens spokesperson Christina Mkwanda confirmed the development but declined to divulge more information about the deal.
