Bullets says Burundian coach Ramadhan quizzed by Malawi Immigration department
Malawi defending champions Bullets expatriate coach Nsanzarwimo Ramadhan was quizzed Immigration Department for working at the club without work permit.
The Burundian coach was picked at Blue Bird Motel where he is lodging for interrogation.
Bullets Vice-General Secretary Kelvin Moyo and Technical Director Billy Tewesa confirmed the development.
“Yes it’s true that he was picked by immigration department for questioning. I would not say that he was arrested but rather taken to immigration for questioning,” Moyo said.
However, Bullets chairperson Sam Chilunga said the Burundian coach has since been granted bail by the immigration.
Chilunga said Ramadhan was arrested for not renewing his visa to stay in the country after it expired.
“He is supposed to be renewing his visa to stay in the country every six months but it seems he did not comply with the order after so they picked him,” Chilunga said.
Ramadhan, however, downplayed the whole issue.
“ I wasn’t arrested as such. It’s a normal routine of checking passport for foreign people in the country.
“ I was picked like every foreigner in a foreign land. So they took me to check my passport and after checking my passport I have been released,” Ramadhan said.
He described the development as “a normal routine.”
But he declined to comment on whether his arrest has to do with the work permit or not.
“I would not know whether they picked me for work permit or not because immigration department just checked the passport,” he said.
Ramadhan was controversially engaged by former Bullets chairman Kondie Msungama as expatriate coach but after being forced out of the club it has become difficult for the Burundian to work under the new administration.
He threatened to sue the club and Bullets decided to keep him to avoid a facing a heavy lawsuit.
