Academician NyaLonje wins PP primaries to face DPP’s Goodall in Mzimba North
It is now official that academician Agness Nyalonje will lock horns against Malawi’s renowned former finance minister and the Democratic progressive party (DPP) candidate Dr. Goodall Gondwe come May 20, 2014 parliamentary elections in Mzimba north.
NyaLonje on Tuesday floored Bennec Jata Nyirenda with a resounding victory People’s Party (PPs) primaries conducted at Enukweni Tarry centre in the district.
The former Chancellor College lecture NyaLonje chalked 7042 against her runners-up Jata Nyirenda’s 3123 votes. She also defeated John Mhone who secured 221, Mary Agness Nhlema with 117 and Maji Msingo Zgambo with 86 votes.
PP’s Provincial Governor (North) Frank Mwenefumbo confirmed in an interview that NyaLonje won the primary elections with a decisive result.
“I can confirm that NyaLonje is winner,” said Mwenefumbo.
In her victory speech, NyaLonje thanked people of Mzimba north for giving her their full support to win the primaries.
“ I thank Mzimba (N) people ,for voting in majority. I pledge meaningful development that will improve lives for the youth, women and famers that is when she is voted for in May 20 2014.
DPP’s Regional Governor for the North Ken Sanga also confirmed NyaLonje’s victory saying they are monitoring her steps as she would face their candidate Dr. Goodall Gondwe.
“ The woman will face our candidate Dr Goodall Gondwe in 2014.we endorsed Gondwe on December 17 this year at a colorful function at Enukweni as nobody contested against him.
