Airtel Malawi brings television on mobile phones
Premier mobile network service provider, Airtel Malawi plc, on Thursday launched Airtel TV, which customers will access through the Airtel app on their smartphones to be able to watch news and other television programs anytime.
Speaking at the launch in Lilongwe, Airtel Malawi Marketing Director, Thokozani Kamkondo Sande, said Airtel TV will, among others, feature exciting content from various local TV channels, more especially from Zodiak TV and HD PLUS Creations with their “Fatsani” movie.
“We realized overtime that consumers are doing a lot of things on digital and we needed to utilize that space in Malawi and across Africa.
“We have, therefore, brought TV in the hands of a customer using their mobile phone, which is convenient to them that they can watch TV anytime, using their smartphones,” said Sande.
On local content, added Sande, Airtel decided to include HD PLUS Creations with their “Fatsani” movie because a lot of people want to watch the movie.
“In this regard, Airtel TV will also help the arts industry to make sure that their content is seen in Malawi and outside the country”.
Zodiak Broadcasting Station Director of Engineering, Haswell Solomon, expressed his gratitude that Zodiak TV partnered with Airtel Malawi to be featuring content on Airtel TV.
“Amid escalating false social media news, people need quick verification of any truth or validation of any story. Airtel TV on smart mobile phones, with us there, will be the right place to get real stories”.
HD PLUS Creations Marketing Manager, Alex Kachepa, assured the featuring of more content from the firm, more especially the “Fatsani” movie, which he described as the “best movie produced in Malawi and internationally acclaimed”.
