Stripper gang arrested, ‘not vendors’
Police in Lilongwe have arrested a gang that had been undressing women wearing trousers, mini-skirts and leggings.
Regional police spokesman John Namalenga said at least 15 people have been arrested and would be charged with conduct likely to cause breach of peaceand theft.
“We have arrested 15 thugs who we suspect were behind the stripping of women,” Namalenga said.
He said the gang had a motive of stealing and that they were not vendors but criminals.
Meanwhile, repsentatives of vendors Richard Tchuwa speaking at press briefing organised by the Minister of information Patricia Kaliati in Lilongwe distanced the street sellers from Tuesday’s incident.
The briefing also had victims who were stripped naked and director of campaign for the ruling DPP Ken Zikhale Ng’oma.
Kaliati said govvernment condemned the act in strongest terms.
Vendors have claimed the gang was being sent by “big” people whom they never mentioned.
