Balaka police recovers two dead body from a river

As rains continue to cause havoc in the country, Police at Ulongwe in Balaka district have recovered two dead bodies which were found floating in the river Mkasi in the district.

Balaka police spokesperson Sub Inspector Joseph Sauka says the incident happened Thursday afternoon when a group of people went searching for a 50 year old man Medson Geoffrey who went missing on 13th January, 2015 and was believed to have been drowned in river Mkasi.

“After recovering the body of Medson Geoffrey the group also discovered a body of unknown African woman in her early 30s floating in the same river and is believed to have been drowned from the upland,” said Sauka.

Postmortem conducted at Kalembo Health Centre revealed that death was caused due to suffocation.

Sauka says the deceased Medison Geoffrey was a mental patient and was coming from Namungumi village, in the area of Traditional Authority Kalembo in the same district while the other body of the female person has not yet been identified.

Meanwhile, Police in the district is appealing to the general public to vacate from the areas where they are likely to be affected by the floods and is also appealing to teachers not to allow pupils to start off to their respective homes while it’s raining to avoid drowning cases.
