Bangwe MP Shawa is ‘political prostitute’ -Malawi ruling PP
Ruling People’s Party (PP) officials led by provincial chairperson for the north Rev. Brown Soko have attacked Blantyre Bangwe MP Henry Mpofu Shawa for campaigning in Mzimba central constituency calling him a “political prostitute” and a “confusionist”.
Soko, together with Members of Parliament Ackimu Mwanza, Rabson Chihaula Shawa and Rev Christopher Mzomela Ngwira took turns in castigating Mpofu Shawa for relocating to Mzimba where has already started canvassing for votes in Mzimba central constituency while he is an incumbent MP for Blantyre Bangwe constituency.
Speaking at Kapiri TDC on Tuesday during a PP rally, Rev Soko said:” I condemn out right the behaviour of Henry Mpofu Shawa to come from Bangwe and destabilize the party here in Mzimba central. Hon Shawa needs to be reminded that an MP cannot have two constituencies.”
The Provincial chair also said those working with Mpofu Shawa risks expulsion from the PP.
Taking his turn, MP for Mzimba South East Rabson Chihaula Shawa said the Bangwe constituency MP is practicing “political prostitution” by campaigning in two constituencies.
He said Mpofu Shawa’s conduct has greater potential to destroy the party and weaken it ahead of the 2014 tripartite elections.
Concurring Mzimba Hora constituency MP Rev Christopher Ngwira and Mzimba Solola MP Ackimu Mwanza urged the people to rally their support behind the incumbent MP Mabvuto Joseph Kachali.
And in his remarks, Mzimba central constituency MP Kachali called Mpofu Shawa “a donor “who is only campaigning for him.
Kachali also alleged that Mpofu Shawa, a contractor, is simply doing development works as instructed by the Malawi government.
In his remarks, Mpofu Shawa said the attack on him is baseless and will not deter him from implementing development projects.
Mpofu Shawa has gone flat out implementing various development projects in Mzimba.
Kachali became an MP after emerging victorious during the by-elections that took place on October 9.
Initially, he won the seat as an independent but he later joined the ruling People’s Party.
And Shawa is also a member of PP but recently lost his parliamentary seat having crossed the floor from United Democratic Front (UDF). He however was retained back in parliament after obtaining a court injunction.
Shawa will not be the first MP to relocate to Mzimba after serving in Blantyre. Billy Kaunda did it after serving Blantyre City East he is now MP in Mzimba, his home village.
