Battle of two Chihanas deepens in Aford as they embarrass each other over APM endorsement remarks
The rift between Aford’s only MP in Parliament, Yeremiah Chihana and his president Enock Chihana, reared its ugly head on Sunday over Yeremiah’s remark at a DPP rally in Blantyre that Aford is endorsing former president Arthur Peter Mutharika.
Few minutes after making the remark, Aford came hurrying with a quickly put and rambling statement distancing itself from Yeremia’s remarks, saying the party’s committee has not yet met to make such an endorsement.
In a press release, AFORD’ s publicity secretary Annie Amatullah Maluwa said the party will be represented by its president honorable Enock Kazingeni Chihana in next year’s general elections Annie Amatullah Maluwa.
The statement, strangely, appear to have already endorsed Enock Chihana even before the convention, but well, on a larger scale the issue of the endorsement, the party said, should not be taken seriously as Yeremiah made it at his personal level.
At this level it is not easy to discern who is fooling who, however, these two voices coming from a single party speaks to something terribly amiss in the party.
It definitely speaks about something cooking inside the party with regards to the relationship between the party’s only MP in parliament and its leadership.
Did Yeremiah just woke up and chose to dine with DPP and make an endorsement without the blessing of his party? Did he had to go public before the party making its own position?
Does the party not know the ways of Yeremiah, their only MP in Parliament?
Well, its 2024, the hottest political year and, definitely, anything can happen and tongues will always wag.
However, what is apparent is that, for some time, the party’s president Enock Chihana has always maintained the line the party will go alone without any alliance.
Time will tell.
