Bingu given liquor at ANC celebrations, no food
Malawi President President Bingu wa Mutharika was d forced to eat ‘junk’ food with other African heads of state who attended last weekend’s centenary celebrations of the African National Congress (ANC), according to media reports.
Mutharika and others leaders had to buy their own bedding, food, pots, pans, glasses and bottled water because the ANC had ordered the owners of the houses it rented at Woodlands Hills Wildlife Estate to remove all their possessions. There was apparently only liquor provided, News24 Onlinereported.
Nyasa Times sources said Mutharika dispatched a female cabinet minister to fetch him a ‘take away’ food in the dead of the night while Uganda President Yoweri Museveni is reported to have ate grilled chicken from Nandos outlet .
The deficit of food and personal effects, News24 reported, also jolted Presidents Obiang Mbasogo (Equatorial Guinea), Hifikepunye Pohamba (Namibia) and Rwanda’s Paul Kagame.
The report said the President, most of them autocrats -were “angry and disappointed” but the South African government disputes the report despite acknowledging, however, that Museveni may have decided to order food in addition to that provided.
Nigerian delegation arrived on Sunday morning and had packed their bags by lunchtime. And President Thomas Boni of Benin allegedly “stormed out” of Woodlands Hills immediately.
