BJ says Bingu framing charges to arrest Joyce Banda

People’s Party treasurer general Brown Mpinganjira (BJ)  has made claims that President Bingu wa Mutharika is plotting an arrest on Vice President Joyce Banda in the wake of the President’s decision to strip the VP the NGO’s coordination role.

The Office of the president and cabinet announced that President Mutharika would now be overseeing operations of the NGOs.

Mpinganjira speaking on a local radio said government wants to create an impression that the vice president coordinated the pro-democracy protests on July 20.

Joyce Banda: Stripped off her NGO's cordinating role

“We feel in the People’s Party that this is a deliberate attempt to make it appear in the general public probably to Malawians and to the whole world that it was Right Honourable Joyce Banda who was coordinating the NGO’s for them to demonstrate on the streets,” he said on Daybreak Malawi programme on Capital FM radio.

“It’s a well coordinated effort by government to drag in Right Honourable Joyce Banda and to have her arrested,” he added.

DPP fired Banda as first vice president alongside Khumbo Kachali, who was second vice president, in December 2010 for not supporting the idea of the president’s brother, Peter, who is also education minister, becoming the president’s heir apparent in 2014 when the general elections are due.
