Blantyre Joint Choir to host Easter Cantata on Palm Sunday
As Christians are fast approaching Easter Period, Blantyre Joint Choir, an inter-domination choir group, has announced that it will hold Easter Cantata that will be a “mixture of singing and bible readings” as part of celebrating the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This Easter Cantata will take place on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2015 at the Henry Henderson Institute (HHI) Multipurpose Hall in Blantyre.
The event, first of its kind, is also aimed at adding “vibes” and “excitement” to Easter, an important festive period on Christian calendar, according to the organizing chairperson, Gospel Mavutula.
“Easter is one of the important events on Christian calendar, but people do not give it much hype as they do with Christmas and New Year festivities.
“So Blantyre Joint Choir aims to bring more excitement and highlight the importance of the Easter Period through singing and bible readings while celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ,” said Mavutula.
Easter is a festival celebrated by Christians and it does not have fixed. It is celebrated on the first Sunday of a full moon day after March 21. It usually falls between March 21 and April 25.
“Apart from the singing, we also have several bible verses regarding the season we are in. So will it be a mixture of singing and bible readings throughout.
“We have identified good bible readers from member churches to spice the event with their audible voices,” explained Mavutula.
According to him, Blantyre Joint Choir is affiliated to the Evangelical Association of Malawi (ECM) whose membership comprises Seventh Adventist Church, the Central Church of Africa Presbyterian (CCAP), Calvary Family Church, Living Waters Church, Anglican, Roman Catholic, Zambezi and Assemblies of God, among others.
“The event is for free and the door is open to all Christians who value the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Members of Blantyre Joint Choir come from different churches within Blantyre, so the event is open to all people,” said Mavutula.
Other groups expected to perform during the Easter Cantata are Michiru CCAP Youth Choir, Calvary Family Church Praise Team, Soche Anglican’s Christ the King Choir and Word Alive Praise Team, among others.

This is comes to mind about the Seventh day church radio. I have never known any other selfish radio like this radio aired from Blantyre. These guys don’t play any song from any church or denomination but they want their songs to be played in other Christian radios. They claim they only feature seventh day member’s songs only but is Jimmy Swaggart an adverntist they feature some international music not from Seventh day members but here they don’t feature local gospel music from other churches. This is selfishness in the body of Christ let those behind such bad rules learn… Read more »
@ ANALYST : To me the group represents the Symbol of oneness as Christians>unless you tell me that Catholics are not Christians then your line of thinking is right. Mind we will not be judged based on our denomination but by fulfilling the will of our father. Lets not waste time with that. After all Catholics and non Catholics believe that Jesus died and rose from the dead. Always pursue the will of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit in your life other than what you are talking about. Otherwise go to the function on the day .For me… Read more »
Catholics do not belong to any non-Catholic organisation. Catholicism is for the catholics. They behave in the same way CCAP of Nkhoma Synod does. Blantyre churches are always liberal. They mix very well and also share pulpits as well. Not CCAP Nkhoma Synod and not even within the churches. There is a Rev who is notorious for not allowing any Rev to visit his congregation. When revival meetings occur, he does not allow his flock to attend such gatherings. Just this very Sunday, he was busy castigating Christians who frequent fellowships. Very bad in these last days where Revs are… Read more »
