Campaign heats up Athletics Association of Malawi polls
The Athletics Association of Malawi goes to polls next Saturday at Malawi Institute of Tourism to elect new executive members who will take charge of the association for the next four years.
The association’s vice General Secretary Mzee Makawa told Nyasa Times that other activities at the Annual General Meeting include presentations of reports from the AAM president, General Secretary and treasurer.
Meanwhile, campaign has heated up for the competing five positions. On the position of the association’s president, the former AAM president Godfrey Phiri and national athletics coach Francis Munthali are challenging the incumbent Dr Richard Nyirongo.
Physical fitness instructor for referees in the Eastern and Central Africa Ephraim Mzengo, AAM Chairman for central region athletics committee Senti Banda are competing for the vice presidency.
The incumbent vice General Secretary Mzee Makawa, Ronald Kuchipanga who is a soldier at Moyale Barracks are gunning for the position of the incumbent General Secretary Frank Chitembeya who is currently on suspension for impregnating an athlete.
Former 200metres splinter, Nicholas Kanyenda and Chairperson for the southern region athletics committee Irene Luka are eyeing the position of the vice general secretary.
While a Kamuzu Baracks soldier Major Tembo is challenging the incumbent treasurer Grey Ndovi one of top notch bosses at South African Airways (Malawi office).
