Can Thunder strike Diamonds, as two giants clash in Rainbow
Giants Kukoma Diamonds and rivals Thunder Queens will be in a cat-and-mouse chase in the Rainbow Paints Blantyre and Districts Netball League, when the two teams are expected to meet at Blantyre Youth Centre Saturday.
Many sports pundits have so far dubbed it ‘huge Blantyre derby’ capable of pulling more crowd.
Diamonds are topping the log table while Thunder are coming second and Saturday’s result will shake the log table.
Diamonds captain Caroline Ngwira has vowed to suffocate their opponents with the way they have trained.
“We are leaving no stone unturned because any victory against Thunder means getting closer to the title. We are fully prepared and every player is eager for the game,” she told Malawi News Agency on Tuesday.
She also assured their fans of victory against Thunder.
Diamonds is beaming with confidence following the availability of experienced players in the likes of Jessica Sanudi, Alinafe Kamwala, Bridget Chalera and Shiera Dimba.
Thunder Queens captain Joana Kachilika send a warning signal to the champions emphasizing that they will be the first team to beat Diamonds this season.
“There is no room to get complacent. We respect Diamonds but we will take them head on. For us to be champions, we have to beat our rivals,” he said.
On the other side, Thunder boasts of skillful players in the likes of Thandiwe Galeta, Joana Kachilika and Martha Dambo.
In another equally exciting match, Fixtures Machinjiri Sisters takes on Tigresses.
Southern Region Netball League general secretary, Annie Hanjahanja says weekend games will mark the end of the first round and urged netball lovers in Blantyre and surrounding districts to come in their large numbers to admire cream della cream of Malawi’s netball.
