CCAP against women wearing miniskirts, exposing ‘valuable assets’: St Columba Church in Malawi

St Columba CCAP church of Blantyre City Presbytery of the Blantyre Synod, has warned women and young girls against wearing clothes that expose their ‘valuable assets’ such as breasts during wedding ceremonies  and church service.

Issuing the warning during church intimations on Sunday, Church Session Clerk, Elston Chimaliro observed that women and young girls especially the so-called Lady in Waiting, who are entrusted with the bridal party during wedding ceremonies, come to church not “decently dressed”.

Chimaliro pointed out that the church has the mandate to bar anyone indecently dressed from attending wedding officiation and church service.

He urged the faithful to ensure that they always dress properly to be in line with the Christian values within and beyond the church premises.

“We have not noted with great concern that ladies and young girls are no longer adhering to the code of addressing. Women are not dressing properly when coming here either for wedding or church service.

“Be informed that the church has the mandate to bar improperly dressed lady waiting from being part of the wedding procession.

“The house of the lord must always be respected. You should be decently dressed. How can one claim to be a Christian when she is indecently dressed?” said Chimaliro, who is in the twilight of his second term of office as First Session Clerk.

He further urged young girls to be putting on skirts of reasonable length, saying the dress code should be respected at all costs to avoid the embarrassment from the church following the new resolution on the matter.

St Columba CCAP, dubbed as the warm heart of Blantyre Synod, is one of the biggest churches in the Synod of Blantyre and its members come from various areas within Blantyre.
