Celtic earmark Chiukepo to replace Gaba
South Africa top league outfit Bloemfontein Celtic has earmarked Bullets robust striker Chiukepo Msowoya to fill in the shoes left by compatriot Gabadinho Mhango.
Chiukepo, who is Malawi top league joint scorers, left Friday to undergo trials at the club.
Celtic’s Malawian team manager John Maduka said in a telephone interview that they have confidence in the striker going by his performance last season after inspiring Bullets to defend the title.
He said Celtic had been following the exploits of the striker with keen interest.
“Chiukepo has been doing well this season that is the reason we have called him to be assessed. If he is going to impress the technical panel then we are going to sign him,” Maduka said.
This follows the termination of the once club favourite Gaba after signing a pre-contract with another South Africa top league side Bidvest University.
He was due to join Bidvest in June but the move did not go down well with Celtic management who pushed him out fearing that he could not be fully committed to the club.
But Gaba hitting back said he was irked by the club’s dillay-dally in offering a new contract.
He said as a professional he would have been reserving his energy for the new club.
Gaba is currently looking for a club to keep him fit as awaits his move to the students.
Positive move for Malawi football.Lots of goodies for Chiukepo.
