Central Region PIS Beach Soccer launch set for next weekend
Central Region Beach Soccer Committee (CRBSC) has announced that the official launch of this year’s Presidential Cup Beach Soccer
tournament which is played under the government sponsored Presidential Initiative on Sports (PIS) will get underway next weekend.
Central Region Beach Soccer Committee General Secretary Allie Mwachande said the launching ceremony will take place at the Kambiri
Lodge in the Central Region Lakeshore District of Salima.
Mwachande has since called upon all interested Beach Soccer clubs to register through CRBSC secretariat and the registration fee is K10,
000.00.
“Registration for the 2017 Presidential Cup Beach Soccer tournament has commenced and we are therefore calling upon calling upon all the interested teams to come forward and register. This years tournament will be played on knock out basis and the teams that will register are the ones that will also be considered as we kick start the Central Region Sand Festival Beach Soccer League,” said Mwachande in an interview with Nyasa Times.
While calling upon for more support towards Beach Soccer in the country, Mwachande revealed that the participating teams this year
will be competing for K500, 000.00.
“The money allocated is just too little and we therefore ask the government through the Football Association of Malawi (FAM) and Sports Council to consider increasing the sponsorship package” said Mwachande.
Meanwhile, the CRBSC General Secretary has revealed that the Sand Music Festival Beach Soccer League which is sponsored by Honourable Lucius Banda under his event organizing firm Impakt Events is expected to kick off immediately after the PIS Cup.
“There are few things we are working on and we hope to kick start our league after winding up Presidential Cup games. At the meantime we are looking at ways of raising more money so that atleast we can increase the sponsorship package. Honorable Banda pumped K1 million last year and this time around we need two to three million but we don’t want the whole chunk of money to come from the pocket of our sponsor.
We are strategizing on what we can do together with our sponsor to get more money” he said.
Among other things, Mwachande highlighted that they intend to be winding up their league during the weekend which Impakt Events holds its famous annual music festival ‘The Sand Music Festival’.
Sand Music Festival is an annual event which is organized by Impakt Events and it features several activities including music, traditional
dances among others and attracts people from across several African countries as well as Europe.
