Chilumpha faults Malawi VP Chilima on Machinga ‘shootings’
Former vice-president Cassim Chilumpha, who is also Assembly for Democracy and Development (ADD) leader, has condemned the alleged shooting of unarmed civilians by the county’s estranged vice-president Saulos Chilima’s personal bodyguard in Machinga, saying it raises fears of the worst should MCP-UTM alliance leaders be elected into government.
Speaking at a political rally he addressed in Nkhotakota on Saturday alongside alliance partners Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and United Democratic Front (UDF) officials, Chilumpha said firing unarmed civilians was frightening.
UTM leader Chilima reportedly cancelled his campaign whistle stops in Machinga on Friday after unknown people blocked the road he was traveling.
The incident led to the shooting by Chilima’s body guards. Some people are reported to have been injured in the process.
Chilumpha told the crowd the three people shot in Machinga were in critical condition and battling for their lives in hospital.
Despite calls by different leaders, including political leaders, political violence in the country continues to rage as both, the ruling and opposition sides have their share of victimization and aggression.
“The President chose to use a bypass road in Lilongwe when people blocked his motorcade despite having the power to order his security men to use force and clear the way.
“And his running mate Atupele Muluzi recently in Mponela left the place without such incident despite people blocking his motorcade,” he said.
DPP secretary general Grezelder Jeffrey said the DPP was poised to win the court sanctioned fresh presidential election, citing a number of development projects by the DPP-led government.
UDF Member of Parliament for Nkhotakota South East, Yahard Ibrahim Sadala said President Peter Mutharika was a humble and patient leader who needed to continue ruling the country for continued peace and development.
He said the president had managed to develop the country within a few years despite finding empty coffers in government.
Speaking at the same rally, Traditional Authority Malengachanzi bemoaned lack of respect, love and justice in the country, saying it was causing problems.
He said jealous, envy and the pull him/her attitude by many Malawians was retarding development in the country.
ADD, UDF and DPP regional governors for the Centre, Kennedy Njakama, Alhaki Moyenda and David Kambalame respectively were some of the people who spoke at the rally and called on people to vote for DPP, UDF, ADD alliance torch bearer, President Mutharika during the presidential fresh election.

chilumpha hates Chilima to the core!!! Given a chance he can do bad things to Chilima. Mwinatu anawadyera mkazi nanga kuzitenga personal chonchi? Coz at every level Chilima is far much better than chilumpha.
If others say chilima is vice president can’t be blocked then why the president of the republic of Malawi is blocked in Lilongwe? Talk with sense. The home of violence is central region u don’t conderm it because those violence are backed by the courts.

Chilumpha and Atupele were misinformed, there were no live bullets at Nselema shooting and Chilima with his security never reached the mentioned place. It was the Liwonde Police who used teargas carnister that landed on a lady and a certain man not live bullets. Where are these guys getting these misleading information? Eastern Region police has refuted the shooting claims…………………Nyekhweeeeeeeeeee
I hear there was no shooting,,live bullets were not even used but only the teargas. The police has confirmed. So Atupere and Chilumpha are misinformed, they shld have verified with the police before rushing to criticise.
Foseki Atupele and Chilumpha should apologise
There was NO LIVE SHOOTING. Mbuzi, mwasowa chabe zolankhula. If if it did happen, no one would blame VP as he doesn’t command the security to open fire BUT rather security personnels judgement of the risk. That’s the reason either head of state or VP have security. They are not there as flowers but rather provide security which if necessary, fire at enemy. You also say you fear what would happen if HE GOES INTO GOVERNMENT, really? Don’t you know that CHILIMA IS STATE VICE PRESIDENT, HENCE ALREADY IN GOVERNMENT? Koma UMBULI winawu abalee? Why don’t you blame YOUR DULL… Read more »
I feel sad that former VP Chilumpha has been in the news for wrong reasons lately rather than showing statesmanship.Whether it is former President Muluzi, Chilumpha, Joyce Banda, former vice president khumbo Kachali, please learn from what former VICE PRESIDENT RIGHT HON JUSTIN MALEWEZI does.He keeps quiet and advises quietly where necessarily. This idea of behaving like spoilt little brats that wish to be in the news even when speak BS does not earn you the respect you deserve.
Chilumpha is one of the useless politicians we have in Malawi. He is both selfish and arrogant.
