Chitipa Utd, Masters Security share spoils: Malawi TNM Super League
Relegation fighters Chitipa United and Masters Security shared a point each in a TNM Super League match that ended in a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Mzuzu Stadium before a very sizeable crowd.
The visitors were the first to score just four minutes into the game after a brilliant exchange of passes into United’s box and Allion Ntchefu’s shot first hit the right upright before ricocheting into the net.
They continued enjoying possession with Chitipa United chasing the ball for the better part of the first half. Dread rocked Patience Kalumo, Sam Gunda and Mphatso Dzongololo made proceedings tough in the middle of the park for Chitipa United players.
And 40 seconds into the second half, a thunderous shot from Happy Chulu of Chitipa United was ably dealt with by goalkeeper Blessings Kachala.
Coach Kondwani Toots Mwalweni for Chitipa United made two substitutions in the second half. Alick Phiri and Makhumbo Sibale replaced Happy Chulu and Clement Mwalwanda respectively.
The changes brought rhythm on the United side and it was substitute Alick Phiri who equalized on the dot of 90 minutes to seal the game at one all draw.
Speaking after the match, Head Coach for Masters Security, Abbas Makawa said it was painful to draw against Chitipa United as they fought relegation.
“We lost concentration in the dying minutes and that made us concede a goal. It’s really painful,” he added.
Taking his turn, Kondwani Toots Mwalweni said his players were tired, playing four games in a space of seven days.
