Diamonds, MTL Queens clash in in OG Issa final first round game
Netball lovers will this Saturday flock to Blantyre Youth centre in the commercial city of Malawi to witness the final first round encounter involving Diamonds and MTL Queens in the O.G Issa Southern Netball League.
The game is expected to produce some sparks as both teams are city rivals.
Diamonds coach Griffin Saenda has insisted they are not ready to drop yet another three points after loing to Tigresses last week and has vowed to fire from all the cylinders.
“We slipped against Tigresses last week, and we cannot make the same mistake against MTL on Saturday because it will jeopardize our ambition to defend the title,” said Saenda.
Saenda is placing his faith on Caroline ‘Ayuda’ Ngwira, Towera Vinkhumbo, Bridget Kumwenda, Jessica Mazengera and Sarudzai Gondwe to upset the tables.
In the other camp, MTL Queens coach Mary Atcheya Waya is aware any defeat in the hands of Diamonds can also jeopardize their chance to clinch the title after a long spell.
Waya, who has managed to blend a good squad comprising of young and old guards players can place hope on the centre of the moment Pilirani Msukwa, Riana Mtenje, Martha Dambo, Sherrat and Joana Kachilika, who are a good combination.
Southern Region Netball League General Secretary Anne Hanjahanja described the first round as impressive.
“The first round has been good where we have seen upcoming teams going down to giants with lesser margin. This just proves that our league is improving,” said Hanjahanja.
