DPP secretary general Kudontoni killed in car crash
Secretary General of the governing Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Ecklen Kudontoni, has died in a car accident.
The accident occurred at Bua as Kudontoni was travelling to Kasungu for political errands.
Kudontoni, who once served as a member of parliament in the United Democratic Front regime, died instantly, according to police.
“When doctors checked him there was no spontaneous breathing, no blood pressure, no pulse, no cardiac activity,” an eye witness said.
He was appointed DPP secretary general by President Peter Mutharika after the elected holder of the post, Minister of Gender, Jean Kalirani was unceremoniously removed.
President Peter Mutharika is “extremely saddened” and shocked by the demise of Kudontoni, according to DPP spokesman Francis Kasaila.
“His demise is a major loss for the party,” he said.
Malawi has some of the most dangerous roads in the world and accidents continue to claim lives of many people.

Kwacha Malawi, you are the one who is lost don’t speak nonsense here, haven’t you read that this SG was going to Kasungu for Political errands. If you are intelligent enough tell us what is political errands. This is associated with Politics I think Kwacha Malawi you are just childish and you don’t know Malawi politics. Ask people those who were there when late Gwanda and Former IG late Lunguzi were in the same vehicle that overturned and killed Lunguzi at the spot. Both were also going for political arerands in Kasungu. Also both were ambitious to take over from… Read more »

its sad that he has died while serving the DPP
Its like death of a top HAMAS official, tiyeni tisangalare ndithu. No sympathy at all. It seems that he had put ndale before everything nde zikatero its a double tragedy. May his death serve as a lesson to top politicians that death ilibe kuti uyu ndi ndani. If you hear the voice of the Lord today, you should not harden your hearts
Rest in Peace Hon. KUDONTONI. You were a good Man.
The Big Man is gone. RIP!!! (“P” with the exclamations because you were peaceful). It is one thing to criticize the man, professionally, but it is uncouth to celebrate his death as some posters are doing. And desultorily, I might add. How good are seat belts in our cars, and how often are victims found not having had a seat belt on? These are some of the pertinent questions Police should be addressing, because elsewhere, even next door countries, many people do survive, and even thrive, after accidents where the vehicle is a write off. Regardless of the road conditions.… Read more »

Late Kudontoni was a Malawian first and a DPP member second. Regardless of his and our political orientation, the fact is that Malawi has lost a prominent citizen as well as a prominent politician. Whether we realize it or not, and regardless of which side of the political divide we belong to, it’s people like this man who make politics interesting. May his soul RIP.
You can say that again, Douglas.
Death of a person evokes grief and elicits tears. But death of DPP members conjures hope and wipes off tears of economic misery from the face of Malawians. Malawi has nothing to lose in the loss of DPP machinery.
