DPP women’s deputy director quits to join MCP
Deputy director of women in the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Martha Chimpozo Kamanga has quit the party and joined main opposition Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Mzuzu-based Kamanga said she has resigned from DPP citing lack of focus and emergence of factions.
Kamanga, who is a mother to Elizabeth and Mable Pullu, both former Miss Malawi and herself was also a beauty queen, confirmed she has joined MCP.
“After realising we were in the same bus but with different bus stops I decided to quit because the party is no longer progressive,” she said.
She said if DPP will not resolve its factionalism, the party was headed for doom.
“I am not bitter nor do I have bad feeling for leaving DPP. But I had to make a decision as a matter of principle,” she said.
DPP’s Eclen Kudontoni said the party has accepted Kamanga’s resignation because she voluntary joined the party just like other party members.
“She voluntary joined DPP out of her conviction and if that conviction is not there anymore, we cannot hold her,” said Kudontoni.

Good move, Mama. Apatu dzanja lalemba. Take it or leave it.
Freedom of association is enshrined in our constitution, no need to call her names. Joining MCP is a wise move for people of the North and Center. DPP has shown time and again that it is a party of Southerners. Main priority of DPP is to keep power in the South, that is all, no development agenda!! Verily, verily, I say unto all Malawians within the next decade power will be moving to the center and it will never come back South. Ndiyeno mudzaone mmene zimakhalira kuona only 3 out of 20 ministers coming from your region!!! Panopa tiyeni nazo… Read more »
welcome.
Whether Martha is spent force or not but democracy is a game of numbers. This should send a signal to DPP. I had never seen any one since we adopted multiparty system of government quiting a ruling party. Surely DPP has problems, their manifesto is useless because it is failing to fix the economy.
This shows my party is now loosing polarity
Pakale unali bwino koma pano mwathasupu take it easy
Things fall apart……..the center cannot hold….
