Eagles coach condemns captain over red card
Blue Eagles coach Audro Makonyola has condemned captain Micium Mhone for playing a part towards the Cops 2-0 loss to TNM Super League leaders Mighty Be Forward Wanderers on Sunday at Nankhaka Stadium.
Makonyola reacted angrily after Mhone was shown marching orders for picking up a second bookable offence deep in the second half.
Asked what he made up of the sendoff the coach did not sympathise with the former Jomo Cosmos professional.
“I don’t know whether the referee was wrong or not. I need to look at it again but the players need to be disciplined by holding their temper,” Makonyola said.
He said before the red card a decent game of football was brewing at Nankhata but the dismissal destabilized the rhythm of the team as his charges pushed for an equaliser.
“His dismissal was a blow to us as we played under pressure because of our numerical disadvantage on the pitch,” Makonyola said.
The loss also dented the Eagles’ home unbeaten record this season.
Mhone was a toast on the pitch as he gave Wanderers tough time until his red card for arguing with the referee.
Esau Kanyenda who also both goals capitalised on the numerical disadvantage to claim his brace after Mhone was shown marching orders.
