England, Jamaica court Malawi netball team for friendly
Malawi national netball team has been booked for a series of friendly games against England and Jamaica.
Netball Association of Malawi (NAM) General Secretary Carol Bapu said games in England were set for December but Jamaica were yet to fix the dates for the games.
Bapu said the friendly games would be important for the team to tune up for World Championship next year.
She was optimistic that the netball team would be offered the support to make the trips.
“We have been invited by England and Jamaica for a series of friendly games. We are happy to have been invited by such great teams because it shows that they have confidence in us that we can give them a good test,” Bapu said.
The invitation for friendly games comes after the team put up a gallant fight at the 2014 Glasgow Commonwealth Games held in Scotland.
The Queens finished on fifth position after beating continental rivals South Africa 53-45 to maintian their fifth position in the World and One in Africa.
They beat Northern Ireland, St Lucia and hosts Scotland but lost to New Zealand and Jamaica in the Pool A group matches.
The Queens received a standing ovation after stretching 2010 Commonwealth Games champions New Zealand to win by 50-47 in a highly competitive match.
