Ex-Malawi football star Chikondi Banda dies
Chikondi ‘Doctor’ Banda once a household name for Big Bullets club and country, has died.
His closest friend Yohane Chipala said the ex- Bullets midfielder died after being attacked by cerebral malaria.
Banda, who used to form a deadly combination alongside Andrew Chikhosi and James Chimera Junior before the turn of the century, has been working his way back to form with Premier Division’s Nyasa United.
Southern Region Football League vice-general secretary Kingsley Simbeye said: “We are sad to hear Chikondi Banda has passed away. Our thoughts are with his family and friends.”

Chikondi had 8 caps for the national team and made his debut on May 22, 1999 in the Cosafa Castle Cup match against Namibia which Malawi lost on penalties at Kamuzu Stadium.
His last game was a 1-1 draw against Guinea away in Conakry on 28 January 2001 in the 2002 World Cup Qualifier. He scored his only goal in Flames 4-3 loss to Tanzania in an international friendly game on 26th March 2000.
