Ex-Minister Mwawa rebuffs DPP gravy train
Former minister Dr Yusuf Mwawa has scoffed reports linking him to ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Mwawa’s name appeared on the list of politicians DPP were vetting before accepting in their rank and file.
But Mwawa, who served as minister of education as well as minister of health in Bakili Muluzi led UDF government, said people want to create things out of nothing .
“I wish to categorically refute to the effect that I applied or had wished to join DPP,” Mwawa told Nyasa Times.
“At no point have I shown interest to join the DPP,” he clarified.
Mwawa added: “ I wish to state without any contradiction that since I resigned from PP in 2013 prior to he general election I have been concentrating in my professional work in my clinic. I have never made any attempt to go into active politics.”
On Sunday during a political rally President Peter Mutharika addressed at Masintha Ground in Lilongwe there were defections by several politicians, including members of Parliament (MPs) David Bisnowaty (Lilongwe City Centre Constituency), Patrick Makina (Zomba Ntonya) and Davis Katsonga (Mwanza Central),
DPP spokesperson Francis Kasaila said all newcomers were vetted before being accepted.
However, according to the DPP list seen by Nyasa Times, others are pending including former ministers Brown Mpinganjira and Henry Phoya.
