Fake female cashier at wedding ceremony arrested over K276 000 theft
Malawi Police Service in Lilongwe have arrested a 36-year-old woman on suspicion that she stole K276 000 cash while posing as a cashier at a wedding ceremony.
According to Lilongwe Police Deputy Public Relations Officer, Sergeant Foster Benjamin, the suspect has been identified as Enifa Sesani who posed as Patricia Chikhwaza.
He said the suspect was arrested on Saturday at Crossroads Hotel in Lilongwe where the wedding ceremony took place.
“She collected K276 000 cash and stashed it away in her purse; one of the cashiers detected her and alerted the police, leading to her arrest,” Benjamin said.
The woman has since been charged with theft and will appear in court soon.
