FAM issues Bullets’ defender clearance for Makepekepe
Football Association of Malawi (FAM) has issued an international transfer clearance for Bullets defender George Nyirenda to play for Zimbabwe top league side CAPS United.
FAM Commercial Manager Casper Jangale, who is also responsible for transfer matching and contracts of players, confirmed that the defender was eligible to play for Makepekepe.
Jangale said FAM issued an international transfer clearance for Nyirenda on Friday last week after a protracted contractual feud with his club.
“He is now eligible to play for CAPS United because we issued the international transfer clearance on Friday last week,” Jangale said.
He said the dreadlocked defender was cleared as a free agent after establishing that he was not contracted to People’s Team.
“We have cleared him as a free agent because he was not contracted to Bullets as the team claimed,” he said.
“This is a lesson to Bullets and other clubs in the country that they should offer contracts to their players otherwise they will end up losing like this.”
He said clubs should move with time to handle issues of players’ contract professionally.
Nyirenda had insisted that he was a free agent because he did not sign any contract with the club.
Bullets General Secretary Harold Fote had warned that player would not join the Zimbabwe team as a free agent.
Nyirenda becomes the third Malawian player to be signed by CAPS United after former Mighty Wanderers midfielder Gerald Phiri Jnr and former Epac striker Ishmael Thindwa.
