Former Mzuzu City Mayor denies damping his ward

Former Mayor for the city of Mzuzu, Kondwani Nyasulu, has quashed speculations that he has damped his Msongwe Ward after failing to reclaim his sit as the city’s mayor in the elections that took place in December, 2021.

Nyasulu was speaking to the media from Zambia in a virtual press briefing held at AAUCHA Lodge in Mzuzu on Saturday afternoon.

The former mayor explained that he was in Zambia for medical attention on an eye problem.

Nyasulu: all projects are going on

“Prior to the elections, I came here in Zambia to seek medical attention on my eye. And after elections I had to come back here for review. I am still here because the eye has taken long to heal but any time the doctor makes the final check-up, I should be returning to Malawi,” he said in his opening remarks.

Nyasulu said it would be difficult to have a developed and admirable Mzuzu City if misunderstandings between the political wing and the secretariat at the council are not addressed.

“You see I lost popularity because I was closing some gaps where people thought they would be getting easy money for their own personal benefits,” he said.

The Msongwe Ward Councillor stressed that he was still reliable and significant among people in his ward saying all development projects in his ward have not halted as they are under the watch of the Ward Development Committee (WDC).

He finally said there is a lot that needs to be done to uplift the face of Mzuzu City but the secretariat and the councillors on the political side should understand their roles and work as a team to achieve the desired goals.
