Former President Dr Bakili Muluzi represents Malawi at Rupiah Banda’s burial
President Lazarus Chakwera has delegated former President Dr Bakili Muluzi to represent the country at the burial of Zambia’s former President Rupiah Banda.
The gesture by Chakwera is a major departure from the practice advanced by all his predecessors who pushed former presidents to the gutter through trumped up corruption charges despite having a lot to offer.
Muluzi leaves for the state funeral in Zambia and returns on March 19, 2022, according to a statement from ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Muluzi has since described as an honour a decision by President Chakwera to delegate him to represent Malawi at the burial of Rupiah Banda, former President of Zambia this Friday.
Banda died last Friday at his home in Lusaka.
Muluzi, has confirmed being delegated by President Chakwera.
Muluzi said he has accepted the role because he knew the late Banda for many years including when he was former minister of foreign affairs during the late Former President Kenneth Kaunda’s reign and when he was an ambassador in New York.
