Four Malawi artists, Nyasa Times, others for 2016 BEFFTA Awards
Four Malawian entertainment personalities, Malaw’s online publication Nyasa Times and its editorial director Thom Chiumia received nominations for the 2016 edition of international award ceremony, Black Entertainment Film Fashion Television & Arts (BEFFTA) Awards and will learn this weekend if they are getting the gongs in London.
Among those who got nominations rappers,; Tay Grin, Martse, afro-pop singers Dan Lu and Kell Kay.
The three musicians are in contention for the 2016 BEFFTA Best International Male African Act award.
Nominated for the same accolade are Tanzania’s Diamond Platinumz and Patoranking of Nigeria who collaborated with Malawi’s Zani Challe on the song Single Tonight.
Nigeria’s Flavour who features in Dan Lu’s soon to be released “One plus plus” is in the same category.
Dan Lu, Martse Kelly Kay have earned their first international award nomination with Martse and Kell Kay among the new comers on the list having risen up the ladder after collaborating on the 2015 afro-pop hit “Mwano”.
Tay Grin also earned a nomination in Best Music Video category with the song Chipapapa featuring Nigeria’s 2Baba.
Nyasa Times, which won the award last year, again received nomination in the news category facing competition from: African Voice, The Voice, Nigerian Watch, Informer East Africa, The Phoenix Newspaper
The editorial director of Nyasa Times and a Loose Cannon columnist, Thom Twee Chiumia also received nomination as bestinternational journalist, an accolade he won last year.
There were also other nominations for Malawi conncection who included the category of radio personality of the year that has charity director Fikelephi Jackson whose works are in Malawi and Malawian online radio DJ Steve Chijota,
Anoither Malawian Grace Ntolela Mujungu and her husband Johnson Mujungi of Grajoh Talent Management received the nominations as Best Events Promoter.
Miss Malawi UK of Kondi Bowoyeke Munthali is nominated in Beauty Pageants facing competition from Miss Pride of Africa UK, Mr and Miss West Indies UK, Miss Uganda UK, Miss Africa Great Britain, Miss Malawi UK, Mr and Miss Black Beauty, Miss Ebony Ambassador, Miss Congo UK, Miss Guyana UK, Miss Trinidad and Tobago UK, The Commonwealth Pageants, Mr Africa International, Asian Beauty Pageant International
The BEFFTA Awards is Europe’s biggest award ceremony celebrating black and ethnic personalities in entertainment, film, fashion, television and arts. The award ceremony is in its eighth year and promises to the best.
The main grand award ceremony which celebrates under one roof film directors, actors, actresses beauty pageants, musicians, fashion designers, journalists, authors, DJs, models, radio personalities, TV personalities, sports personalities and many others will take place on October 27 and 28, hosted by legendary Hollywood actor, Dr Winston George Ellis, and BEFFTA CEO, Dr Pauline Long.
