G.Y Imports & Exports get credit in Cezobal’s success
Basketball Association of Malawi (Basmal) has attributed the success of Central Zone Basketball League (Cezobal) at this year’s Basmal All Stars national tournament to the financial assistance from G.Y Imports & Exports Ltd, which has sponsored game in the zone at almost all levels for the past two years.
Cezobal shined during the two-day event held at Civo Basketball Court last weekend after triumphing in the Men Seniors and Ladies’ sections. The hosts only failed to win the Rising Stars’ section, which was won by Southern Zone Basketball League (Sozobal).
In the ladies’ category, Cezobal proved too smart for Northern Zone Basketball League (Nozobal) and Sozobal, outclassing the visitors 83-30 and 53-24 respectively. The Cezobal Men Seniors’ side triumphed 71-50 over Nozobal before crashing Sozobal 63-46.
This was the first time in as many years for Cezobal to defeat Sozobal, whose teams have been dominating in Basmal organised events.
To add the icing on the cake, Cezobal’s Todd Stiles, who plays for ABC Lions was named Most Valuable Player (MVP) in Men Seniors with Takondwa Lwazi, who stars for Lilongwe based Angels declared MVP in the women section. The Rising Stars’ MVP award went to Divine Mwenecho Munthali of Sozobal.
Speaking in separate interviews with Nyasa Times, both Basmal president Hamlet Kamtengeni and technical director Obed Nyirongo attributed the success of the Zone to the support the league has been getting from G.Y Imports & Exports and its sister company Dr Print.
“Apart from sponsoring Basmal activities, G.Y Imports & Exports have been sponsoring Cezobal at every level including clubs and what we have seen over the weekend are the fruits of the marriage between Cezobal and the sponsors. When there is something to play for, players prepare well and put in more effort- hence improving their skills.
Nyirongo concurred with the Basball president in a separate interview, observing that Cezobal has made a lot of strides since G.Y Imports & Exports came onto the scene two years ago.
Chief Executive Officer for Dr Print Daud Hussein said the two companies were proud to be associated with the development of basketball both at national and zonal level.
“We have been enjoying a very good relationship with Basmal and its affiliates- hence our coming again to sponsor this year’s Basmal All Stars competition. If the business environment remains healthy for us, we are going to sponsor the All Stars again next year,” said Hussein.
During the All Stars, the companies splashed K650,000, K500,000 and K250,000 plus trophies to winners of the Men Seniors, Ladies and Rising Stars categories respectively.
Dr Print are specialised in printing advertising and promotional materials while G.Y Imports & Exports deals in stationery, ICT, furniture, building and other household materials.
