Goodall likely to be replaced by Msaka as Finance Minister
Minister of Finance, Economic Planning and Development Goodall Gondwe could well be replaced by Education Minister Bright Msaka in a Cabinet reshuffle likely to be held after Parliament sitting.
Gondwe may be given charge of another ministry, say sources.
The government purse-keeper has been facing widespread criticism on the way some payments from Treasury are being made and continue plunder of public resources known as Cashgate.
It is also believed that President Peter Mutharika want a fresh face to push key reforms to kickstart the economy.
It is learnt that Mutharika plans to bring in new ministers in place of those who haven’t been performing up to expectations.
Msaka is said to be the blue-eyed boy of Mutharika and well positioned to be given the Treasury bag.
Government spokesman Nicholous Dausi said he could not comment on the speculations because appointment of cabinet members is a “prerogative” of the President.
He said these are the Constitutional powers endowed to Mutharika, as the President of Malawi.
Government spokesman stressed that Mutharika is empowered to appoint cabinet Ministers, and dismiss them as and when it is necessary for him, to do so.
In political settings, it is motives which drives actions and not skills or potentials of the appointed. If I am sure that a chicken can assist me achieve my goals, I would go for it even though the work requires a four-legged animal like a horse! hahahahaha! malawi unaiphula wekha ndiye tiye uidye!
I think it was going to be wholly better if the big man went out of sight completely on his own. It was going to save the little dignity that is left in him. Which ministry can he save better than ministry of finance? They are using the old man to steal honorably for them.
“Goodall Gondwe may be given charge of another ministry ” When is he going to retire? At his age he still wants to serve as Minister? My foot!
We will do whatever is necessary to kickstart the economy that has been run down by ourselves in the DPP. We have shared the booty and looted the public sector to the borne. ESCOM is now living on borrowed lobes. Behaving like an ostrich which thinks is hiding in the sand when it’s whole dark behind is above ground for all to see its inefficiency. After stealing from governmment completely and decimating the parastatals, it’s time to change this fool and allow a lawyer with no financial background to take up the challenge of abetting stealing and mismanagement of your… Read more »
It’s good that the old man should go. I wish if he was to go for good. His suggested replacement tells me that DPP lacks quality personalities to head the finance ministry. This is a highly technical ministry that requires great leadership with technical understanding of finance issues.
We don’t care now whether APM removes this dead wood or not – the difference is the same. One thing that I am so certain about though is that Msaka will remain Minister of Education or he may move to Justice Ministry while the portifolio of Fiance will go to Mwanamvekha. You should understand why I think so.
I prophesied last week that grace chiumia will not be cabinet minister by Jan 10 next year. I maintain the same
Do you think all the ministers in DPP are there because they are the rightful people in those positions?
What will Che Msaka be doing at a very technical institution like Treasury? You need somebody who will hit the ground running and provide strong leadership . That is even more important coz Ambuye Che Botolo amangodziwa mabodza ndi kuba, ntchito imavutilapo, olo akanayankhula kuchititsa dziko manyazi. Akabwera Msaka apitiriza kuba ndi Botolo mmene amachitira ku Natural Resources and Energy.
In this country things self drive and no direction is needed, thats why we are not progressing. Whoever is put on ministerial position things will still function at the normal pace.
