Govt tells Egenco to stick to December deadline on Kapichira rehabilitation

Government has told state run power producing company, Egenco to stick to the December deadline on the finishing of rehabilitation and restoration works at Kapichira power station.
Minister of Information and Government spokesperson Gospel Kazako said the government expects Egenco to meet the December deadline for resumption of energy generation at Kapichira station.
Last week, Egenco said it was behind its deadline of 22 December for completion of rehabilitation works at Kapichira power plant due to delays in the construction of a coffer dam at the site.
According to Moses Gwaza, Public Relations Officer for Egenco the delays were as result of fuel shortages and changes in the design of the coffer dam which led to the World Bank suspending construction works.
However, Kazako has described as unjustifiable the excuses from Egenco.
Kazako said government expects Egenco to deliver the work within the deadline- arguing the energy generator has enough expertise to finalize the work within planned period.
